Convert VS2010 to VS2008 C# Project

If you want to convert a C# project in Visual Studio 2010 to one in Visual Studio 2008, then you simply need to open and edit two files in notepad.

First open the solution file and change the following two lines

Microsoft Visual Studio Solution File, Format Version 11.00
# Visual Studio 2010

to

Microsoft Visual Studio Solution File, Format Version 10.00
# Visual Studio 2008

and then open each project file and change the entry near the top of the file from

ToolsVersion="4.0" to ToolsVersion="3.5"

Opening Publisher Files

Recently a colleague asked me if I could open a publisher file for him, as we do not have publisher at work. So I searched my list of portable apps and came up with nothing that would open it. Time to Google I thought.

After about ten minutes I came upon an on-line application that saved the day. www.pdfonline.com allows you to upload a file, which they convert to a pdf and send to you (with some advertising) in an email. Admittedly it took about an hour for the email to come through, but he could see the contents of the file finally.

The Open Disc

Well I stumbled somehow across the site at www.theopendisc.com and thought I would download it and take a look. Anybody wanting a free set of software would do well by downloading this disc.

On another note, I found out that the owner of www.portableapps.com has also registered www.theopenkey.orgso maybe he will put together a site of the same software but portable.

My Website

Well I began working on an updated version of my website today. Find it at www.publicjoe.com. Not a lot works, but thats OK for now.

On another note, I started using dreamweaver to write my new updated site with. I am impressed, I love it, but not the cost, so when the 30 days run out, I may need to find something else. Maybe 1st Page 2006 might do the job.

Creating PDF Files

Often I need to create PDF files, but not necessarily from Word. Although there are plenty of applications and plug-ins on the market, a great free one can be obtained from sourceforge. When you have installed it, a new option appears in the standard printer window from any application. The resulting files are excellent.

Getting Started

I thought it was about time that I started a blog, as I am always trying to remember where I put that interesting link, or cool piece of code. Also I write for http://en.csharp-online.net, so I can use this to help keep track of what I am up to on there.

This also gives me an outlet for the many applications that I have written over the last few years.
